Several years ago, Austin Gutwein paid a visit to Africa. He had a boy pen friend in Africa who helped him realize that he had more than most kids did in Africa. In Africa, many people have an illness that spreads like wildfire called AIDS. There is no cure for AIDS. Many kids in Africa lose their parents because of AIDS and become orphans(孤兒).
This 13-year-old boy decided to do something to help. He started to raise money for the orphans. He raised $3,000 to help, but he knew that wouldn’t be enough. So when Austin was 14 years old, he started an organization called Hoops of Hope. Austin decided to build a school. He went around the US and encouraged the kids there to raise money, so he could give the money they raised to help build a school in Africa for orphans. 
This is something that he loves to do. His great determination has encouraged people all around the US to help the kids in Africa. With efforts, they succeeded in building the school for the kids there. The school was used as an orphanage(孤兒院), housing 450students and teachers.
Hoops of Hope’s next goal was to raise $150,000 and build a medical testing lab in Sinazongwe, Zambia. Not only did members in Hoops of Hope raise enough money to fund(提供資金) the building of the lab, but they also supplied the lab with 1,000 medical equipment.
Everyone should be educated, cared for and loved. Austin Gutwein gives these children a feeling of happiness and joy that they will never forget. Austin Gutwein has set a good example to today’s teenagers.
