Dear Henry,
I am writing to tell you that these days I have been in low spirits. In fact, it is due to my future major.
Now I am among the top students in Senior Grade Three. My parents insist that I should major in law. According to them, it would be easy not only to find a job as a lawyer but also to make much money. If so, I would be respected by others. However, I want to study archaeology, which has been my interest for ages. I like to work in the open air. I believe that I will make great contributions in this field.
Sorry, you see, I am really in a dilemma. Would you please give some advice? I’m looking forward to your reply. Best wishes!
                                                                     Yours truly
                                                                       Li Hua

Text 1
M: I need the report by Friday at the latest.
W: But I can’t possibly finish it in 2 days.
M: Ok, but I have to have it next Monday.
Text 2
M: I haven’t been able to practise for next month’s performance.
W: Did you forget? We have a vacation coming up and you can play all day.
Text 3
M: Miranda, Joan said she’ll meet you in front of the library at five this afternoon.
W: I’ll have to ask Dad if he can drive me there. Where is he?
M: Still at work. Call him now before he leaves his office.
W: Good idea. ksyfn.com
Text 4
W: What a pity. They didn’t have the notebook I wanted; the one with the singing star Justin Bieber on it.
M: So what did you get? They had some good ones with cartoon animals on them.
W: Yeah, that’s what I got. I didn’t want one with flowers all over it
Text 5  ksyfn.com
M: Did you get an invitation to Sam’s party?
W: Yeah, but I didn’t get the e-mail he sent. My computer wasn’t working.
M: So did he call you?
W: He sent a text message and then I saw him in class and said I’d be there.
Text 6
W: Remember to keep your phone with you today—in your pocket, because I’ll need to call you to let you know who’s going to pick you up from school—me or Dad.
M: I wasn’t going to take it with me today—I’ve left it up next to my bed.
W: Why? The idea is that you keep it with you so we can get in touch if we need to.
M: I know, but my classmates Sally had her phone stolen from her bag last week and I don’t want to lose mine.
Text 7
W: Hi, Tom! Have you forgotten we’re meeting today? I’ve been standing outside the cinema for ages waiting for you!
M: What? Don’t you remember? You said you needed to go to the shopping center, so we decided we’d meet there. That’s where I am now. I was wondering where you were.
W: Oh, no! Well, I won’t have time to get all the way there—I have to go home quite soon, so I think I’d better just walk down to the bus station instead.
M: Sorry, Jane—let’s meet up tomorrow instead!
Text 8
M: Are you going to the job fair?
W: Yeah, I was hoping to get a job working in one of the libraries.
M: That looks like a great job. You just look in people’s bags. Most of the time you can sit and do homework .
W: Exactly. I’ve been a lifeguard at school, but while you’re sitting there guarding, you’re not allowed to do anything else—even if no one’s in the pool. So I leave the job. I was also a monitor in the photo lab where it’s too dark to do any reading.
M: But if you’re a photographer, you can develop your pictures for free.
W: Right, except I’m not. So do you want to go to the fair now?
M: I’ll probably see you there. I’ve got to return a book to the library first.
Text 9
M: Do you have any coins with you?
W: I don’t have any money on me at all.
M: Oh, no. I was so lucky to get a parking space so close to the hall. Professor Klauss is giving a speech there in a couple of minutes. But I don’t have any coins to put in the parking meter.
W: Well, we could drive over to the supermarket parking lot, I guess.
M: All the way over there? I’m not sure that’s such a …
W: With your parking permit, you wouldn’t have to pay any money to park there. It’s a long walk, but you won’t need to worry about your car while you’re at the speech.
M: Right, but if I go over there to park, I’ll miss the beginning of the professor’s speech… and I’d really like to see the whole thing.
W: Well, I guess you could just go in without putting any money in the parking meter. If nobody notices that there’s no money in your meter, then you won’t get a ticket.
M: That’s true..., but those parking tickets are so expensive. It’d be a risk. But the professor’s speech is worth the money.
Text 10
W: Simon, tell us about yourself.  ksyfn.com
M: Well, like lots of other children, I’ve grown up taking my boat onto the rivers in this area. One of my favorite rivers is the River Stanton, which is fast with excellent water—so things can get pretty dangerous but it’s exciting.
W: Now, it was while you were on the River Stanton that you noticed something was wrong.
M: Yeah, I always wondered why the water made my eyes burn if it got on my face… and why it was a strange, orange colour, especially when the water was running low.
W: So you decided to find out more.
M: Yeah, I asked other people using the river and I visited a few websites and found out that the river was orange because of pollution from the oil mines in the area. There was a lot of mining in this part of the country. I knew that from my history class at school.
W: Then you did a test, didn’t you?
M: Yes. I found out about an organization called “The Friends of the River Stanton”. They told me they did a special course where I could learn how to test the river water to see if it was healthy or not. So that’s what I did and I got really interested in the subject.
