W: Well, I saw this old man. He was kind of holding his bag like this. He just left the bank and I was still queuing up to collect my money, but I was near the door. Now this young man came running past him and tried to get the bag.

M: And they both fell down?

W: Yeah, and the young man ran away, and the poor old man fell on the sidewalk, still holding his bag tightly. And we managed to help him up. Now can I go back in to collect my money?

M: Would you mind coming with us,madam? We need more information.

W: Hey, did you read the article in today’s school newspaper?

M: No, I’ve been studying all morning. What’s so exciting? 

W: Well, this September, the school is going to have its own radio program.

M: Oh, really? I hope that means we’ll have more popular music to hear now. 

W: Actually, I don’t know if I would get so excited. The article said that there would be programs on all sorts of music as well as discussion and teaching programs. 

M: Too bad. It sounds as though there won’t be much time for good music. 

W: The station is going to be on all day and all night without stopping. So I’m sure it will satisfy all kinds of tastes. 

M: I certainly hope so. At least it’s better than nothing.

M: Excuse me for not coming to class tomorrow.

W: You missed the class last week, too. You've missed a lot of lessons already. I think you should work a little harder to make up for them.

M: Yes,  I will, Miss Smith.

W: Why can't you attend my class tomorrow?

M: My grandfather is seriously ill and my family is going to visit him in the hospital tomorrow.

W: It seems to be an excuse. All right, you are excused. By the way, which hospital has your grandfather been in?

M: St. George’s hospital.

    There are many things to consider when you are looking for a house, whether you intend to buy or only to rent. After all, it is going to be your home, perhaps for quite a long time, and you want to be happy with it. You have to decide exactly what kind of house you want, how much you can afford to pay, and the type of neighborhood you wish to live in.

Last week I arranged to see a house that was for sale.

The agent said it might need a few repairs, but he thought we should look at it anyway. He told me it was a bargain. Some bargain! The roof leaked and the pumps didn’t work. The front steps were broken and the back door had no lock on it. It needed to be painted both inside and outside. It was in terrible condition.

　　“What do you think?” the agent asked.

　　“It isn’t exactly what I want,” I told him.

　　“You are very difficult to please.” he said. “Perhaps you’d better build a house yourself.”
