M: What time is it by your watch?

W: It’s a quarter to two. But my watch is 5 minutes fast.

W: I cannot find the scissors.

M: Let’s look for them later. Right now, I need your help fixing the shelf before I paint it. Then I can nail it to the wall.

W: I couldn’t agree with you more. He got the attention of the whole world.

W: Mark, do you often cook for yourself?

M: Every three days, but cooking takes too much time. I often eat out.

W: So, how often do you dine out?

M: Almost every other day.

W: Good afternoon. May I help you, sir?

M: I am Jack Rogers in room 8808. Mr. Smith will come for this letter while I am out. Could you hand it to him, please?

W: Certainly, sir. By the way, when will you be checking out?

M: Tomorrow morning.

M: I hear a businessman is building a dog park in our city.

W: Really? What for?

M: Obviously because there’s a law against having dogs in the streets.

W: Does that mean that dogs have to stay at home all the time?

M: Sounds pretty cruel, right? Maybe a dog park is a good idea.

W: Maybe they should just allow people to walk their dogs in the streets.

M: But then the streets would be a mess.

W: Couldn’t people clean up after their dogs?

M: Would they? They just leave the mess to the street cleaners. Maybe we need more volunteers.

W: Could you please give me some advice about how to keep fit?

M: I think the best way to keep in shape is to play sports.

W: What’s your favorite sport?

M: Oh, that’s hard to say. Too many. I play table tennis every day, and I play basketball and go swimming every two days. I’m also fond of Wushu. Do you like sports?

W: Oh, yes. I like watching sports programs on TV and I often go to the stadium to cheer for my favorite team.

M: It seems that you like watching them more. What sports do you usually take part in?

W: I used to go swimming a lot but not any more.

M: But I think you should do some sports. I’m going swimming today. Would you like to go with me?

W: I would love to.

W: Excuse me. I just lost my handbag. I can’t find it anywhere.

M: Please have a seat. Well, what sort of handbag was it?

W: It was black and made of leather. It was made in France.

M: What was it worth? And what was inside? Can you remember?

W: Well, 700 euros, my blue cloth purse, my ID card, a book and an umbrella were inside. My handbag was quite expensive. I bought it last month and I paid 800 dollars.

M: Do you remember where you left it?

W: I’m sure I left it in the coffee shop. It was about three o’clock.

M: How can we contact you?

W: Here is my name card. You can phone me. I really hope you can help me find it.

M: I hope it will turn up. We’ll let you know as soon as we find it.

W: Thanks a lot.

M: Hi, young lady. How may I help you?

W: Well, I’m looking for a gift for my father. Father’s Day is coming, you know.

M: Okay. How about getting your father a new belt?

W: Hmm, sounds good. How much is that belt?

M: Uh … which one?

W: The black one.

M: Uh. It’s only $55.95.

W: Huh? That’s too expensive for me. Do you have something cheaper?

M: Hmm. How about this brown wallet?

W: Um … I don’t think my father will like the design on the outside, and it doesn’t have a place to put pictures. How much is it, anyway?

M: It’s $35.99.

W: Hmm. I don’t have that much money.

M: Okay. How much do you have to spend?

W: I’m not sure. Probably about fifteen dollars or so. I’ve been helping my mom around the house for the past two weeks to earn some money. That’s all I have.

M: Hmm. How about this tie?

W: That’s really nice, but the price tag says $19.99, and I know I don’t have that much money. What’s more, I gave him a tie last Christmas.

M: Well, let’s say the tie just went on sale. How about $15.00?

W: Oh, in that case, I’ll take it.

Young people and older people do not always agree. They sometimes have totally different ideas about living, working and playing. But in one special program in New York State, adults and teenagers live together in a friendly and peaceful environment.

    Each summer, 200 teenagers and 50 adults live together for eight weeks as members of a special work group. Everyone works several hours each day. They do so not just to keep busy but to find meaning and fun in work. Some teenagers work in the forests or on the farms near the village. Some learn to make things like tables and chairs and to build little wood houses. The adults teach them these skills.

    There are several free hours each day. Weekends are free, too. During the free hours some of the teenagers learn photography or drawing. Others just sit around and talk with the adults. Each teenager can choose his own way to spend his free time.

When people live together, they should have rules. In this program the teenagers and the adults make the rules together．
