M: I was up late last night. My friend had a party. I only slept about four hours.

W: Why didn’t you stay in bed this morning?

M: I have to meet my study group at the library. We have a big test next week.

W: A big test? Why didn’t you study last night instead of going to the party?

M: Oh, it’s OK. I studied a lot before the party.

W: Maybe that’s not a good idea. I read a report. It said that if you don’t get enough sleep after you study, you may forget 30% of what you’ve studied!

W: Yes, it is.

M: Peter Smith.

W: Is two o'clock Friday afternoon convenient for you?

M: Two o'clock is fine. Thank you very much.

W: Why won’t the car go? What’s wrong with the car?

M: Nothing.(louder)I said that I was going to Chicago, in America.

W: I know where Chicago is. When do you leave?

M: Oh 5th May. The course will start the next day,6th May.

W: You’re feeling sick today? Have you seen a doctor?

M: No, I’m not sick.(louder)I said that the course would start on May 6th. The course ends two weeks later on May 20th.

W: How many other young people are going on this course?

M: 24.

W: I’m sure there are plenty more, but how many?

M: (louder)I said 24,Granny.

W: I see. What will you have to take?

M: I’ll have to take lots of warm clothing.

W: Nothing? You have to take nothing? What about clothes?

M: (shouting)I said that I would have to take warm clothing! It’s cold there!

W: If you’re cold, put the heater on. There’s no need to shout. I’m not deaf!

M: I started swimming this morning at 5:00.

Hello! I’m Harvard Smith. As the editor of The Voice, I’d like to introduce you to our school daily newspaper. We need volunteers to help us with our newspaper. Experience isn’t absolutely necessary. But we need people with writing and typing skills. Since The Voice comes out every day except weekends. We need excellent students who know how to plan their time well. Good grades are necessary.
